Nigeria at 66: Dr. Justin Amase Reflects on Nigeria’s Economic Journey and $1 Trillion Ambition

As Nigeria marked its 66th Independence anniversary, Dr. Justin Amase, MD/CEO of Macrostrat Nigeria Limited, reflected on the country’s economic journey and the scale of transformation required to achieve its ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

In an article published in the 1 October 2026 edition of National Accord, Dr. Amase traces Nigeria’s economic development from its agriculture-led post-independence economy through the oil boom and subsequent periods of economic disruption.

He argues that Nigeria’s current ambitions require more than incremental improvements, pointing to the need to learn from previous development failures and build a growth model capable of overcoming longstanding structural constraints.

The article, “Nigeria at 66: Reflections on a Checkered Journey and the Audacity of a One Trillion-Dollar Dream (1),” is the first part of the series.
